Daylesford in winter: a weekend for the fire

A season that asks you to linger

Winter gives Daylesford and Hepburn Springs a particular kind of welcome: brisk walks, warm cafés and the pleasure of returning somewhere comfortable. Stormhaven is approximately five minutes from Daylesford, close enough for an outing and quiet enough to make the return feel like a change of scene.

Pack layers and leave room in the day. Lake Daylesford and Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens offer different ways to be outside, while the town’s restaurants, galleries and shops give you reasons to warm up between walks.

A town day, without a packed schedule

Choose one or two anchors rather than trying to cover everything: a slow morning around the lake, a browse through local makers, or lunch that becomes the centre of the day. Sunday market dates and other local events change, so check the current schedule before you go.

The best winter plan usually has a generous gap after lunch. Come back to the Lodge, put the kettle on, and let the forest and the weather do some of the work.

Come home to the warm part

Stormhaven’s two living spaces, open fireplace and downstairs wood heater are made for the hours after an outing. The three bedrooms give up to six guests room to share a weekend without having to share every quiet moment, and the kitchen makes staying in feel like a choice rather than a fallback.

Bring home something good from Daylesford, settle around the table, and let the evening stretch. A winter stay near Daylesford is as much about the accommodation between plans as it is about the plans themselves.
